Home-Made Yogurt

Making yogurt at home always seemed like a miraculous thing to do! As a child i remember my mom showing us the nicely settled yogurt in morning! And i agree  the happiness that you get when you see a nicely settled Yogurt in a bowl or making butter at home, its way more than cooking a three course meal.

This is what you will need

  • One litre milk
  • 2 Tablespoon of Yogurt- Beat it well (you can use the packaged unsweetened yogurt for it too!)
  • A round shaped bowl (should not be of steel material) Best to use ceramic material or a Handi!
  • Covering for the bowl (a chabba or a plate)
All you need to do is:
  • Warm milk on stove. It shouldn’t be boiling but just consistently warm -bearable on skin kind!
  • Put two tablespoon of yogurt in a bowl, pour warm milk on it and mix it well.
  • Cover it up with a plate and put it aside in room temperature (preferably at a warmer place)
WARNING: Make sure you don’t play or move the bowl around at all (in excitement!). Give it time to settle. At least 4-5 hours are needed (Its best to leave it overnight!). Follow the instructions given carefully.
Once the Yogurt is settled you can put it in fridge.
Enjoy it plain, with sugar or you can make this delicious Yogurt raita (here)

Really nice! Just a suggestion that by adding a pinch of cornflour in it will make the yogurt more well settled.
