My Secret Recipe for Lasagna- Guest Chefling Wes Malik
I’ve been asked on many occasions what my favourite food is, and just like Garfield, it’s Lasagna! Lasagna is a no brainer when it comes to cooking and the recipe is on the box when you buy Lasagna from the supermarket.
There’s your standard ingredients that go into Lasagna such as:
- Lasagna (duh)
- Mince Meat (chicken or beef)
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Tomato Sauce
- Olives (sliced)
- and Mushrooms if you like
and the standard method of cooking Lasagna applies, you boil the Lasagna adding a bit of oil or vinegar to the water to prevent them from sticking, you fry the mince meat with garlic, ginger, salt and spices, I usually add the mushrooms in at the end and cook them in as well adding a bit of tomato sauce (the best would be Ragu but I use plain mitchell’s tomato puree).
When both things are ready layer it all with Lasagna – Mince Meat/Sauce – Lasagna (repeat) making at 3 layers adding Cheese and Olives on the top, cover the pan with Aluminium foil so it doesn’t dry out and bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
But WAIT, you forgot the secret ingredient!
- 6 Eggs
- Green Onions (aka Spring Onions or Scallions)
Beat the eggs in a bowl, and add the chopped green onions to the eggs and a little bit of Mozzarella Cheese.
While you are layering your Lasagna, add the Eggs and Green Onions on top of the mince meat, now making your layering order: Lasagna – Mince Meat/Sauce – Eggs/Green Onions – Sprinkle of Cheese – Lasagna and repeat till you have three layers and again cover the top layer with Cheese and Olives.
Lasagna is the easiest to make and a much-revered favourite at our house! Let me know how it turned out! Tag me in your Lasagna pictures @WesMalik on twitter! www.facebook.com/rjwes
