14th August – A Day Just to Celebrate
14th August have some fond childhood memories. Whenever, I think of this day it reminds me of our home decorated with hundreds of jhundian (small Pakistani flags printed on paper). These small flags were collected by my brothers over the years. I still remember the day when we had so many that we could cover the whole lawn over 250 sq. meter area -from one end to the other. I would run under the rows and rows of Pakistani flag. It was an amazing day! We would lost so many of our small Jhandian because it would rain on 14th August almost EVERY YEAR!
14th August was all about celebrations. There was no cribbing, no sarcasm, no mention of issues, nothing negative. It was us with our flag and love for the piece of land that gave us the honour to be its first citizens. Owning it enough to crib about its issues, to worry about its existence and its issues. Cribbing about the national issues can be self fulling in ways but this country needs all the positivity it can get from us. I believe positive attitudes lead to positive actions!
This day is just about celebrating, owning this beautiful piece of land and thinking how we can use the next 364 days to work on it and make it a better Pakistan.
Even to date, my mother buys flags for her grand children. Its definitely because of her that we kept the tradition of celebrating 14th August and I hope I continue to do so for my precious child. It was so good to see many stalls this year selling flags, people from all walks of life displaying Pakistani Flags on their cars, homes and buildings
This spirit of patriotism is what we need need to do good for this country. Lets celebrate the good in each one of us! A very happy Independence day from the team of Chefling Tales.
