If you’re a foodie in Lahore looking for a good breakfast, you’re in the best city in the world. Along with its cultural diversity, the city also has a diverse collection of dishes, scattered around the historic city. If you want to eat ‘desi’ for breakfast, here are five of the best spots in Lahore. Trust me, you don’t want to miss these Lahori way…
1- Ashiq Channay and Haleem
Located in the main Saddar Bazar, this renowned spot is known for its Channay (chickpeas curry) and Haleem. The delivery time very quick, and you can witness what seems like the entire city waking up in the morning to the smell of the food here. The taste is awesome. Try the Channay with Naan, and add some Lassi (buttermilk) to the mix for the complete experience.

2- Phajjay Kay Paye
Located in the city’s famous red light district, just around Taxali Gate, Phajjay Kay Paye gives customers with delicious Paye (feet of a goat – trust me it tastes better than it sounds) with roghni or simple Naan. If you want to try this place, you’ll have wake up really early and get there, otherwise you’ll be stuck in some very long queues.

3- Mohammadi Nihari
The word Nihari originally means ‘morning’, and Mohammadi Nihari is one of the most famous places Lahoris frequent for their morning meal. For this particular nihari, people wait in ridiculously long lines, both for dine in and takeaways! Nihari is a spicy curry with small pieces of beef. You can also add Maghaz (goat brain – again, tastes better than it sounds) and Nali (bone marrow) for some extra flavor. The garnishing is also beautiful. It takes a while for your order to be made, but the wait is well worth it. The moment you place your order with the waiter, you can smell the aroma around you and know that you’re in for a treat.

4- Gogay Kay Channay
This is another one of Lahore’s most famous breakfast spots. There are many like it, but none compare to the taste at Gogay Kay Channay. Named after its owner, the eatery began when Goga started selling channay in Lahore’s Model Town.

From Channay to Chotay and Braray Paye, this place has a complete breakfast menu that is peerless in taste. As always, Lassi is always available. The main branch is located in Model Town, but there are other branches in various locations in the city.
5- MashAllah Paratha House
With over 30 years of experience in selling parathas, MashAllah Paratha House stands out in serving many kinds of delicious parathas. Located in the famous Mazang area of Lahore, the paratha house serves eager customers from all parts of the city.

A wide variety of parathas are on offer here. These include: aalu (potato) , qeema (mince meat) and gobi (cauliflower). Couple this with a great cup of chai or lassi (depending on the season) and start your day with a great breakfast. This paratha house became an inspiration for a number of paratha houses which followed in its footsteps, yet none can match the taste of the original.
