Most eating venues in Lahore are quite famous, especially the ones having great food and located on the more urban side of the city like Defense and MM Alam Road. However, there are still a few places with which only locals are familiar with. These places are either situated in the old city, or are just not famous because the owners do not advertise much. Eid-ul-Fitr is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time for the whole family to gather round and enjoy some quality cuisine. Here is a list of places which offer the authentic Lahori cuisine the city is famous for. You can grab dinner from any of these and surprise your family with a great meal.
Amritsari Hareesa
In a way, hareesa is much like haleem, yet the taste is very, very different. It is in fact an Indian Punjabi dish, which has survived the partition of 1947, and remains popular in the city to this day. Amritsari Hareesa is located on Nisbat Road, near Lakshmi Chowk. The ambiance here is quite desi; always crowded. It’s best to get hareesa packed with some naan and take it home for the whole family.

Nishat Tak-a-Tak
‘Tak-a-tak’ is one of Lahore’s traditional dishes, yet even some Lahoris shy away from it, which I think is super weird because any kind of tasty food to Lahoris is usually like a pen to a writer. Nishat is located near Gulistan Cinema. If you’re feeling daring, try their maghaz fry (fried goat’s brain mince). A big plus is that they serve it with mint chutni, another thing they are well known for. It may bother you eating a goat’s brain, but trust me, it is really delicious and you will not regret it.

Maaja Khoya Seekh Kabab
Situated near Landa Bazar, Maaja Khoya has some of the best and most unique tasting kababs. Normally, all barbecue tends to taste the same, but this place is really different. They use khoya (highly condensed milk) in the mince which lowers the effect of the spices due to which there is no burning sensation after eating. In addition, their kababs are really juicy, but one negative point about this place is that the naans are not of good quality (they do not have their own tandoor). So avoid ordering saada naan, as the roghni ones are a better option.

Lasani Burger Lahore
This place is located in Barkat Market, and quite popular among students. You can have various kinds of burgers and sandwiches here, and the taste is awesome. I especially love their Chicken Cheese Sandwich. The quality is awesome, and you’re likely to forget all about those fast food chains once you’ve had a taste here. The chicken is extremely juicy, and the cheese makes the experience even better. Reserve this treat for the kids in your family this Eid, they will love you for it.

Shaheen Shinwari Restaurant
Shinwari is actually a traditional dish from the pakhtoon culture, but you can find it in Lahore as well. Shaheen Shinwari is famous for it’s lamb and mutton. The taste is quite sweet, which makes it different from regular mutton dishes. The surprising thing is that the sweetness is all natural, there is no added sugars to the meat here. Shaheen Shinwari is located at Shaukat Ali Road, opposite Shaukat Khanam Hospital. You can bring your family here and enjoy the cozy environment as well as the food.
