OK, so you probably expect me to start this article by reiterating that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. It’s a super cliche, I know, but also important to keep in mind. For all moms out there, you guys already know the significance of the first meal of the day for your little ones. It basically decides how active your kid will be during the day and affects their health in the long run.
When it comes to feeding your child a healthy breakfast, there are certain things that you should keep in mind. Don’t worry, you probably already have an idea of what we are talking about here but in case you don’t, here are a few things that you need to modify to get the best out of your children’s breakfast routine:
DO make breakfast look appealing
We know that you really don’t have the time to decorate your kid’s breakfast every morning, as there’s plenty of other stuff that needs to get done. But get this, it’s a scientifically proven fact that kids absolutely DEVOUR meals that are visually appealing. So if the little one/s aren’t really attacking the plates first thing in the morning, it may be worth the extra few minutes it’ll take to make breakfast look more fun.

DO wake the kids a bit earlier for breakfast
Most kids hate getting up in the mornings. And it’s also true that it’s important for them to take their time eating in the morning. This allows the body to become alert for the day ahead. It also helps keep the mind fresh instead of groggy for those first few hours. So you can see why it makes sense to drag them out of bed a little earlier so they are relaxed and can take their time to fuel up before they leave the house.
DO make protein a part of their breakfast
Contrary to popular belief, it’s okay to eat eggs every day. Kids are growing, and their body needs equal amounts of protein with other nutrients. You can also add the occasional sausage, baked beans and the like to their morning meal. This will make breakfast more diverse, fun and nutritious.

DO switch up the morning menu
Your kid will soon lose interest in their morning meals if you keep feeding them the same parathas (oily flatbread) and eggs every day. It’s important to rotate the morning menu. For example, try some fun pancakes on a Monday, and switch that out with some sausage and cheese sandwiches on a Tuesday.
DON’T send them to school on just a glass of milk
OK, so I’ve seen plenty of moms do this. They think it’s okay to send their children off to school on a glass of milk alone. Newsflash: milk on an empty stomach tends to digest fairly quickly, leaving your kid hungry and nutrition deprived till his or her next meal (or unhealthy snack most likely). So, make sure your kid has some solid food before drinking milk in the morning.

DON’T stack up on fruits
We only need about two pieces of fruit a day – so make sure you add some white fruits (bananas, apples, pears, melons etc.) to the breakfast menu. Not all fruits are created equal after all. Pair these with other foods like whole grain bread or some goat cheese, ensuring that your child gets most from the nutrition spectrum.
